I am not yet able to blog about my Cricket Panache standing frame...Why? My main carer was sick over the weekend. I did not find it easy to get cover for all her calls. I need to think around this problem.
First of all, I not only want one more Personal Assistant for Care (PA) but I need to find one pretty fast! So, I am thinking to make the job attractive by making sure that they are going to get some professional training.
I joined Skills for Care that supports employers (organisations and people who 'directly' employ PAs) develop the knowledge and skills of nearly 1.56 million workers and support the sector to plan for the future using data from the National Minimum Data Set for Social Care (NMDS-SC).

They publish Taking Steps - a guide to workforce planning for providers of adult social care which is also available to download.
It has an amazing amount of information that would have helped me at the beginning when the Shaw Trust had me as a client. They had helped partly but very worryingly had not given me a copy of any contract of employment for my PAs. This was critical as I was going to spend two nights away with a PA. I managed to get hold of one template from one of their admin assistants and remember clearly signing the contract before being hoisted into the car! It is all in the past after many sleepless nights, I can say that I am managing better without the hindrance of the Shaw Trust. I have issued contracts and was able to pay Statutory Holiday pay (SHP) for all the care service received this year especially when it is for a 24h rate or a night shift with the help of Phoenix South West.
